Map of present (filled circles) and past (open circles) sampling locations in Northern Colorado. The first eight sites are colored by longitude, moving from the west to the east. The last four sites are schools in Loveland and Berthoud, sampled during the Summer of 2024.

Average i/n-Pentane ratio by season in Northern Colorado

The violin plots show the spread of the ratios with the maximum value, mean value, and minimum value represented by the three lines. The mean ratios are printed above or below the violin plots. The colors of the markers correspond to the sampling locations on the map.

Simply put, ratios of i-to n-pentane can be used to help understand the sources of VOCs impacting a location. Ratios lower than one suggest the presence of oil and gas emissions.
